Living the Dream — Martin Luther King, Jr.
The following meditations recall the dream and vision of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His was a dream embedded in his faith in God and in Jesus' vision of a kingdom of peace with justice for all nations of the earth. Despite his critics claim that "peace and civil rights don't mix," Dr. King spoke emphatically on the issues of war, racism, and economic justice while advocating a non-violent response.
These meditations focus on celebrating freedom, acting with justice, experiencing power, and responding to love. Each meditation will be based on a Scripture passage that will be accompanied by a reflection on the text and a prayer.
May these meditations help you reclaim Dr. King's vision and embrace it as your own, and may they encourage you to lift up this vision in prayer for renewed commitment to unity and understanding, and to give thanks to God who is the source of the gifts of love, forgiveness, mercy, and redemption.
The reflections were prepared by Ranjini Rebera, an international speaker, writer, educator and facilitator in creative processes for reading and studying the Bible. Ms. Rebera consults for the American Bible Society and National Councils of Churches in several countries. She currently resides in Australia.
The prayers were prepared by the Rev. Fred Allen, former staff member with the American Bible Society now serving as Executive Director for Church Communications and Strategic Planning with the United Methodist Publishing Board.
